Training and Development

Attached is a copy of our Training and Development Policy together with our training matrix, which details the Health and Safety training that is undertaken by the Company.

It is Company Policy to ensure that all personnel are fully qualified to undertake their allocated tasks. This Policy is supported by management and formulated training and continuous professional development plans are audited and checked by a formal appraisal system.

The following criteria is used to assess and evaluate competency: -

Formal job profiles have been developed for each level of management within our organisation. Within the profile, core competencies are identified and assigned a performance/competency rating. The results of individual appraisals are monitored and compared/contrasted with the stated ratings. This process allows a structured personal development plan to be devised for our employees to achieve continuous improvement and presents visible goals and targets that they need to achieve to secure career progression.

Skills matrices, competency profiles and appraisal results are referenced to ensure that the team is assembled from personnel with matching and complimentary skill sets. This process also highlights the existence of any skills gaps allowing training to be focused specifically upon project or client needs. Haymills are prepared to invest in our people via relevant training programmes to ensure that client requirements are satisfied.

Staff appraisals on a one-to-one basis bring out the aspirations and identify the individuals’ training requirements matched against a career development plan. Appraisals are an integral tart of the Investors in People initiative which we are striving to achieve and form the back bone of communicating training needs, both from employee to manager and manager to employee.

Haymills has a strong culture of supporting training throughout its workforce. Training courses are deliberately tailored to the construction industry and its current and future requirements.

Haymills is working towards accreditation to the Investors in People Standard and hope to attain this very shortly. Once this is in place we do intend to utilise the Respect for People Toolkits and will incorporate People Performance Indicators into our already established KPI’s.

We do see the Toolkits as part of our drive for continuous improvement and use the model below. We are aware of the findings of the Accelerating Change Report and believe that our people are key to achieving improvement and ultimately profitability in all areas of our business.

Our benchmark is three training days delivered per full time member of staff per annum. We invest significant time and resource in training our workforce, to ensure that our operations are effectively and efficiently undertaken. Such investment is not regarded as cost but an investment in our future. We recognise that our employees are our most valuable and important assets and as such we must continuously invest in them and ensure that they are appropriately trained.

Directors and senior managers are committed to creating training and development plans for all personnel in order to achieve business objectives.

Training and development needs are regularly reviewed against Statutory Legislation and business objectives to ensure that these are not only in line with Haymills’ strategy, but are also in line with industry requirements. Constant reviews of the training results are carried out to assess achievement and effectiveness of particular modules.

Continuous learning is an essential element of continuous improvement.

Line management carry the fundamental responsibility for ensuring that individuals are enabled to perform their jobs effectively and efficiently, and to enjoy continuous learning opportunities through which their abilities and potential can be developed.

Haymills see that commitment to the Investors in People Standard as the most effective and systematic means of developing and demonstrating respect of people. It also provides the most effective lifelong leaning framework and offers reliable performance indicators for progress in this area.

Training is also consistently evaluated to ensure that any training given meets the needs of the business and that the personnel receiving the training are benefiting and are able to carry out their duties more effectively and efficiently as a result. This can be demonstrated by the use of a continuous improvement loop, which is used as a reminder that training of our personnel does not stop and requires constant review and evaluation.

Haymills is an equal opportunity employer.
